Summary/Abstract: The significance of the work of both Rainer Maria RILKE and Stanisław PRZYBYSZEWSKI for the literary modernity around 1900 is undisputed. They both opened themselves to the new impulses pouring like a refreshing breeze across Europe, from Scandinavia to Italy and from Belgium as far as Russia. The fruits of this impact were gleamingly reflected in lyric poetry and drama as well as in numerous prose writings, all of which managed to reach ever widening cultural circles of society. Both artists can be characterized as having a well developed sense of the depth of human existence, of the unutterable and of areas which only few open themselves to. Indeed, it is fair to say that both were more attached through a spiritual affinity than from “actual” encounters. In my article I intend to clarify these aspects and to show how closely related both artists actually were, brought together by people, localities, or publications, knowing how to honour their writings.
