Contemporary Verse Theories. Mythos and Possibilities for a Theoretical Approach

Summary/Abstract: The article proposes to look into the phenomenon of vers libres from the perspective of literary history as the occurrence that has strictly marked Modernist poetry. It consdiders the form of the free verse maintaining that every verse form can be defined by its "borderline" and "inner" characteristics which it satisfies in a greater or smaller extent. This is the basis for the distinction of "free verse" from other similar forms (regular meter, poetic prose) and for the establishing the minimal distinction between them.
