The Demise of National Culture

Summary/Abstract: The paper first states the spiritual climate within which the question of national cultural policy is posed, and proceeds to emphasize the fact of the non-existence of an innocent culture without its political implications. The second part of the paper deals with possible ways to solve the issues of Serbian cultural policy. Two different but equally important state interests are mentioned: on the one hand the question of integration into the European cultural space, and on the other, the keeping of certain cultural “disciplines“ which cannot become fully integrated due to the specificity of the medium, and are therefore in danger of being accused of provincialism and of being discarded.
