Summary/Abstract: In an article referring to Lucian Blaga’s and Ştefan Augustin Doinaş’ translations of Faustus into Romanian (see Windisch 2005) I tried to explain the importance of these translations to the German readers who do not know Romanian too well. In my contribution I stressed the linguistic compatibility of those translations. Afterwards I found out by chance about a former translation, namely Nicolae Skeletti’s (1835-1872). Unfortunately I did not have access to it. Reading Dan Mănucă’s work (Mănucă 1999) I received a lot of information about Vasile Pogor’s (1833-1906) and Nicolae Skeletti’s efforts of translating Goethe’s outstanding work. Unfortunately the two Romanian variants were not finished so they may be considered only a “pre-history” of Faustus’ translations compared to the complete and accurate translations written by Blaga and Doinaş.
