Summary/Abstract: The author of this article presents the impact of Panait Istrati’s literary work upon the audience in the former Federal Republic of Germany and the Democrat Republic of Germany. Between 1985 and 1993 he edited, together with Gallimard (Roger Grenier), at Büchergilde Gutenberg from Frankfurt on Main – an edition in 14 volumes written by the Romanian Panait Istrati (1884-1935) who moved to France and decided to write in French. In this essay he presents political connotations in Istrate’s works and their impact upon the readers and critics from the former two countries.
