Summary/Abstract: Television is the most popular mass communication medium in last century and its popularity still continues stronger this century. Television was fed from some disciplines such as drama, radio, cinema, painting or literature that have an important place in human life before it; however it almost pushed all other second plans with its attraction. Before the television, the disciplines of art and literature were separated into genres; if so, can television remain deprived from this situation? Due to the nature, television has a complex structure and it’s a basic part of life in all countries which are developing or not… It is a ‘magic box’ for many people who want to take some information, want to have fun, want to be informed or want to have an idea… Despite its expensive technology, it has turned a huge industry that billions of dollars have been invested. Despite its advanced technology, television has to transfer products of people’s labor and ideas. Taking into consideration the wishes and needs of audiences, the messages are generated every day in various format and contents programming and presented to the consumption within a framework of expression possibilities of television. In this study, we intend to investigate the genres and the properties on Turkish TV while marriage programs are examined.
