Summary/Abstract: Athena (goddess of wisdom and warfare) tells Perseus (in ancient Greek stories, the hero who killed Medusa): “Don’t look at that beast in the eye/Otherwise you will be petrified!,” if he had not listened to Athena, he would have been petrified. The historical origin of “to be petrified” phrase, which is used todays, is based on ancient Greek mythology. The effect of television on televiewers of all ages (especially the children), which is one of the legitimizing mechanism of government in modern era, could be linked to the mythology heroes who look at Medusa and were turned to stones. There are lots of effects of television on the people’s perception. Within the borders of the relation of the television with modernity by aiming this context, this study is going to try to explain children’s functions during the socializing process by using historical and qualitative analysis method.
