Summary/Abstract: Violence in the family is a social reality that presupposes a multidimensional analysis (sociological, psychological, anthropologic, medical, juridical, and historic), that has to examine interpersonal, inner and societal factors. These factors represented by neighborhood, community, and culture, as well as the economic, politic and legislative system could either provoke or restrain the phenomenon (to propose its elimination would be utopia). If the problematic of violence in the family was initially debated from the perspective of the human rights (violence in the family is a matter of disregarding and infringing upon human rights), at present, we encounter a different analytic approach. The violence in the family is imposed on the agenda of the scientific debates as a social and public health problem. The new analytic perspective comes to emphasize the social costs that violence in the family implicates and thus to reconsider the strategies for approaching the phenomenon – from intervention to prevention. Treating the phenomenon of violence in the family as a social problem which amplitude might be diminished through the specific strategies existing within society, the investigations justify the necessity to approach in a concrete form the particular types of the behavior implied by the dyad aggressor–victim.
