Summary/Abstract: Translation renders mankind a great service by playing a central role in communication between people speaking different languages and sharing different cultures. In the modern world exchange of information depends heavily on translation, an activity consisting of the transference of words through the dividing borders of languages on the one hand, and the transplanting of emotional and cultural situations on the other. The objective of the present study is to describe the various areas of cultural knowledge contributing to the translator’s competence.
