Assessment of building of power plants using new lignite deposits – a systems approach

Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to assess the validity of the construction of power plants using new lignite deposits located in Legnica and Gubin. Own mathematical model for longterm development of the domestic energy sector has been used. The results of the EcoSenseWeb V 1.3 model used to estimate the external costs caused by the planned plants are also presented. They show a large scale of adverse effects caused by burning coal in these power plants. However, the results of the modelling approach prove that lignite shall retain its dominant position in the structure of electricity generation in Poland.
