Summary/Abstract: The work synthesizes the biography of a term used in such different domains as dialectology, folklore, history of language and even social sciences: ceangău / ceangăi. The paper addresses not only its attestation, the etymology of the term, its spelling and its variants, but also the usage of the term in lexicographical works and in different fields of activities. The description is based on an extensive bibliography therefore a possible monograph of a linguistic term is rounding off.
