THE FRANCISCAN MONASTERY OF ST JOHN THE BAPTIST IN KRALJEVA SUTJESKA Installation of climate control in the museum, library and archives

Summary/Abstract: This paper presents one of the projects carried out by the Commission to Preserve National Monuments in 2008 – the installation of climate control in the museum, library and archives of the monastery of St John the Baptist in Kraljeva Sutjeska.The first section gives the historical background of the construction of the present-day monastery and of the formation of one of the finest art collections in Bosnia and Herzegovina (pictures, books, items of metalwork, textiles, and archive material). The second section provides an overview of the development and implementation of the project, which lasted from March to October 2008, and included the development of the climate control project and the procurement and installation of three evaporative humidifier units in order to ensure the long-term protection of the movable national heritage housed in the Sutjeska monastery museum. A separate section deals with the legal protection of museum material and documentation, with particular reference to the standards applicable to museum activities.
