Summary/Abstract: In the last years, especially after the tremendous diversification of mass-media, the content analysis has become one of the most widely used techniques in scientific research, especially for the exploitation of documents during scientific investigations. Since its inception in 1886, the communication content analysis has been continuously improved, performing a gradual shift from describing communication towards hypothesis testing, especially targeting its effects. Due to the major changes in communication content analysis, this research technique was redefined several times, especially to meet the intent of capturing all its characteristics at the given time.
