Summary/Abstract: This paper is devoted to the shortening of the period required to acquire land by acquisitive prescription on the basis of article 10 of the Act amending the Polish Civil Code of 28th July 1990 (Journal of Laws Dz.U. of 18th August 1990, No. 55, item 321). The paper shows the statements of the civil law against numerous positions taken by the Polish Supreme Court in its judgments on the matter in question. The author analyses four conceptions suggested by judicature and legal doctrine. She also gives reasons of her own opinion on the shortening of the period required to acquire land by acquisitive prescription. These wide deductions of the article concern the issue of the shortening of the period required to acquire the land purchased by the commune in the act of the communalisation of the ownership.
