Summary/Abstract: A colorful presentation of the most sacred religious symbol of Islam, the center of the Islamic world – Mecca –, and of the town that harbors it – Medina. At the same time, a concise description of the Islamic society and its customs as regards the hajj – the sacred pilgrimage to Mecca –, its social, urbanist and economic dimensions, the changes that have taken place in the past decades, which threaten the very essence of this civilization and of its rituals.
