Summary/Abstract: Within the framework of the models and categories of the literary historical rhetorics of travel literature (frame, intinerary, subject of discourse, lexicon, supplementary thematisation, story, addressee), the author analyses Stanko Vraz’s travelogue Put u gornje strane (Journey into the Upper Regions) which, together with Mažuranić’s Pogled u Bosnu (A View of Bosnia) and Nemčić’s Putositnice (Trivia), represents the crucial stage in the Romantic development of this genre. Special attention has been given to the way in which the writer has subsequently transformed the experience of a traveller into the structure of travel literature as well as to the changes that have taken place in the imaginary addressee of the text in the course of this process, as noted in a private letter to Dragojla Štauduar.
