Within the project, 62 monuments of Opole Voivodeship were analyzed in context of their political roles. The most important conclusion is discovering three dependences in commemorating strategies. Firstly – the monuments People’s Republic of Poland of times were to justify annexing Silesia to Poland via commemorating the Piasts’ past of these lands. Secondly, it was noticed that a „memory migration” phenomena is intensively present. Because of the fact that a signif- icant part Opole Voivedeship inhabitants are Poles resettled from the areas of present Ukraine, some events important for the borderland society, such as Wołyń genocide, murder of Katyń, Siberians are often commemorated. Thirdly, the Opole Voivodeship monument map reflects multifunctional char- acter of the region. Local authorities and societies often and willingly commemorate famous people and events from non-Polish past of the Opole Voivodeship, at the same time preparing inscriptions in Polish language is avoided
