Summary/Abstract: Family law in pre-revolutionary Russia was entrusted to parents raising future citizens. Parental power stretched for children of both sexes and all age; it was limited to the admission of children in public schools, the identification of their military service and joining daughters in marriage; she stopped only with the death of parents or depriving them of all rights of the state, if children are not followed at the place of exile. Parental power as patriarchal institute of the most heavily upon the legitimate children, while the children illegal, legalised and adopted were less burdened by the rights and duties in relation to the parents; their position was independent section of the civil law.
