Summary/Abstract: The following text is a description of magnanimity manifested by the human nature but rarely identified as constructive in the upbringing process. Lexical analysis of such terms as protectiveness, kindness and altruism enabled the author to single out specific properties of magnanimous human behaviour. In her investigation of magnanimity in the process of upbringing children and youth, the author proposes to look at magnanimity as: a moral value, a component of a model of upbringing, an aim of upbringing, a component of the human character, an important attribute of a good teacher, a human attitude, a subject for self-educating work and a pedagogical desideratum. Studying such a classical theoretical category as magnanimity may inspire representatives of many pedagogical sub-disciplines, especially researchers of moral upbringing. Active teachers, on the other hand, may, in the attitude of magnanimity, find a way to positively transform human individuals and systems of upbringing. The paper concludes that the psychological proposition of communicative assertiveness may lead to a considerable decrease in the necessity for the occurrence of magnanimous behaviour; however, it should not reduce the significance of magnanimity in social relationships.
