PRIMA PUBLICAŢIE A LUI HUBERT SCHMIDT DESPRE SĂPĂTURILE DE LA CUCUTENI
THE FIRST PUBLICATION OF HUBERT SCHIMDT’S REGARDING THE EXCAVATIONS OF CUCUTENI

Summary/Abstract: The paper refers to the first publication of the results of the excavations undertaken at Cucuteni by the German archaeologist Hubert Schmidt, during 1909 and 1910 (in German, with Gothic characters, in three issued of the newspaper “Bukarester Tagblatt”). The information contained therein was available to Romanian specialists only by means of the transl ation carried out by Victor Lazăr (rather approximate translation, with gaps and modifications of the meaning), published in the “Revista pentru istorie, arheologie şi filologie” (RIAF) (in translation: The Magazine for History, Archaeology and Philology). That is why, there has become necessary to republish, with Latin characters, the newspaper text (correcting some typesetting mistakes), and advance a new translation hereof. It is pointed out that these serial articles contain the main ideas on the finds of Cucuteni, that were taken over by H. Schmidt in later studies. This way, the evolutioN of the understanding of the German archaeologist on the Cucuteni finds is better pointed out.
