Summary/Abstract: Marek Noniewicz is both a serious and ironic artist. One of his favourite photographic technologies is cameraobscura technology. He dedicated a series of self-portraits to Albert Einstein. It was entitled ‘Photo-camera’s Idleness’. In 2000, he registered incidental effects of sun-rays. He used to mail packages with photo-sensitive material, and the material, during the trip, was exposed to light through holes in boxes. He referred to Derida’s ideas of ‘sending things’, and ‘things being sent’. Noniewicz’s work is both symbolic and illustrative. He contributes his personal commentary to different events, and to fables he tells in different series of pictures. Photography by Noniewicz lives its own life. The artist experiments with traditional techniques, which he considers in contemporary contexts.
