Summary/Abstract: This paper focuses on some of the most important poems of Eminescu’s last period of creation: Letters I-V - a lyrical cycle of self-reflecting meditations concerning the condition of the poet and his poetry in late Romanticism. The essential tension is given by the dramatic confrontation of poetic codes, themes and values in a moment of crisis in which the celebrated romantic enchantment fades away, living behind a disappointing real world, unable to inspire poetic thoughts and attitudes. The hypertext of the Letters becomes a lucid analysis of the romantic approach to the world, while the lyrics articulate the limits of this type of creativity and the necessity to move on towards a new type of sensibility. Eminescu’s poems thoroughly illustrate the specific processes of post-romanticism, which made Modernism possible.
