Summary/Abstract: This article presents the initial findings of a comparative study of four cases of National Human Rights Institutions: the Ombudsperson of Croatia, Ombudsperson of Spain, Danish Institute of Human Rights, and German Institute of Human Rights. It shows that conforming to international standards, in the case of NHRI, does not require a unified approach, as long as the minimum requirements are respected. The initial findings also show that there is a repetitive general pattern of characteristics with NHRIs depend¬ing on whether the institution is established as an individual or as a collective body.
