Summary/Abstract: The article presents numerous examples which show ‘paradoxes’ of hussitism, certain features and phenomena that indicate originality of this Czech social movement. Over the centuries the ratio of official and unofficial factors towards hussitism changed. In the times of the 16 century Reformation it was praised, in the 17 and 18 th th th centuries it was fought and it was a great Czech historian Franciszek Palacký who in the 19th century introduced hussitism to the fore. The discussions around hussitism went on not only in scientific environments but also in public life. A lot of later social and political trends and movements in the Czech Republic ‘admitted’ to the Hussite tradition. Today, the interest of this phenomenon does not decline not only in the Czech Republic but also in many other countries. Among Polish scholars it is Stanisław Bylina who pays a lot of attention to hussitism. From the recently published works, the following are noteworthy: Picards’ monography – the most extreme and radical faction of Hussite Revolution and a collection of studies which explore different moments and aspects of hussitism. Among the numerous attendant paradoxes, a separate place is taken by, considered as heretic, Jan Hus. His activity is seen today in a different light which proves a conference dedicated to him which took place a few years ago in Rome.
