Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the paper is to show the problem of political discourse in the aspect of so-called “Nice and Constitutional Treaty debate” which has recently prevailed in Polish mass-media. The introductory part of the paper is devoted to the problem connected with the civil society creation in the aspect of communicative processes. There have been presented two models of communication – one of them refers to the rational debate, and the other deals with so-called “pseudo communication”. The basic part of the text demonstrates the most important findings from the analysis of Polish press articles focused on “the Nice and Constitutional Treaty” problems. There have been presented not only the crucial “key-words”, which are characteristic for the debate, but also the main strands and threads of the debate, and also ways of argumentations applied. Using the most important indicators of the rational debate and “pseudo-communication” there have been shown the discursive profiles of each newspaper taken into consideration. The most important question of the paper concerns the problem if it is possible to understand the problematic of the “Nice and Constitutional Treaty debate” as a rational debate, which is an constitutive element of deliberative democracy, or rater as a “pseudo-communication”, which is characteristic for non-civil model of communication?
