Summary/Abstract: This essay adresses the transformation, in terms of both creative and audience perception, of some Themis after the occupation of Czechoslovakia. The first theatrical reaction in the fall and winter of 1968, a wave of performance from Czech classic repertoire, was exchanged early on for sentimental historicism, which comforted and soothed spectators and calmed thein frayed emotions with the distanc heroic past (Jan Hus, Jan Žižka etc.). It is possible therefore to talk about the fetishization of historical heroism and about an escape into national mythology. On the order hand, in the course of so-called normalization (1969–1989) there emerget a whole sub-genre of „historical dramas“ which employed parallels and analogies to adress current issues which, for politoval reasons, were not possible to discuss in any other way (playwrights O. Daněk, D. Fischerová, K. Steigerwald, etc.).
