Summary/Abstract: This article aims to demonstrate that investment in renewable energy communities (RES) and energy efficiency (EE) make it possible to implement the basic policy objectives of sustainable development. The first part of the paper presents political and legal environment of municipal investments in the direction of RES and EE. Furthermore the article presents examples of the municipal investment in renewable energy, and its evaluation against the principles of sustainable development.
