Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to present the historical annual calendars of the second half of the 17th century and to show the newest research results by means of a few concrete examples. The source of calendars used in this text is the collection of annual calendars preserved in the archives of Altenburg (Thuringia, Germany). After a brief outline of the basic and characteristic parts of this genre of literature and after mentioning the circumstances of its production in the first part, a short description of the contents of the annual calendars follows. The second part of the paper also summarizes the possible functions of the media in early modern society. The third part of the paper provides some examples of the way how science and knowledge could be spread by this media.
