Summary/Abstract: This paper presents Hans Kollibabe (1880–1950), a well-known personality in Bergreichenstein (Kašperské Hory) before 1945, but now forgotten. Kollibabe was a teacher of German, French, Music and Latin at a secondary school in Bergreichenstein. He took part in the cultural life of the town, and was one of the founders of the Folklore Museum of the Bohemian Forest. As choirmaster, conductor and musician, he was also strongly involved in the musical life of the town. What’s more, he collected fairy tales and regional legends in his spare time and edited several books and anthologies of fairy tales and legends. This paper presents Kollibabe’s life from birth to death on the basis of archive materials and autographs. His contributions to society are presented within their historical and local context, and an attempt is made to position him within a particular folkloristic and ethnographic tradition.
