Summary/Abstract: Despite that the founding of the Republic of Moldova was an event largely overlooked by the rest of the world due to the general changes and much bloodier national problems in the other Eastern European and former Soviet countries, the process of nation building that can be seen in this region poses a challenge to recent theories of nation and nationalism.
