Summary/Abstract: In the article the opportunities of using the linear discriminant function in prediction of bankruptcy is presented. Discriminant analysis is a useful technique for prediction of bank-ruptcy and at present many authors take advantage of this technique until the Altman model. In turn publicised discriminant function take into account the economic condition of different countries as well as changeability of financial conditions. Based on above consideration, usefulness of discriminant function should be limited to the country in which one collected empirical data used to estimate a function – especially due to property of accounting system. It should be remember that application of discrimanant function is also limited by the time regarded the evolution of economic conditions. In conclusion of the article, it is pointed out that in Polish economic conditions, effective discriminant function should be estimated based on empirical data which are collected in Poland. Moreover it is necessary to use well known discriminant tools for estimating parame-ters and classification values appropriate for Polish enterprises.
