Summary/Abstract: Although the founding document of the Transylvanian Diocese is not known (cannot be found, was not preserved), historians consider it was one of the ten dioceses founded by St. Stephen (István), king of Hungary. The list of the medieval bishops is also not complete as we lack medieval sources. Only from the 12th century the royal documents contained the names of the ecclesiastic and lay notabilities. Thus, these kind of documents and the written sources from the later centuries help identify the Transylvanian bishops. This publication tries to enumerate and present all the known and less known medieval Transylvanian bishops and the main facts about their life and work.
