Summary/Abstract: The present paper deals, from the perspective of pontifical documents issued by Innocent IV in favour of Queen Violant of Aragon, with the Diploma of the Knights of St. John. Considering the role of the Knights Hospitaller in the administration of Violant’s dowry, daughter of Andrew II of Hungary, due to the Hungarian King Bela IV, as well as their role in the enlargement of the Kingdom of Aragon, in favour of the frontier areas (as in the Romanian region of Țara Severinului), we believe that the Diploma was a manner to solve the Hungarian duty to the Aragon. This is the only perspective that might justify the fact that after the death of Queen Violant, in 1251, we have no other document that would mention the Knights Hospitaller in Țara Severinului, indicating that the problem was gone once the queen was dead.
