Summary/Abstract: This essay represents the results of retrospective interpretation of the fragment of the early Slavic history - that time, when SS. Cyril and Methodius created their original graphic system for recording of the Holy Scripture books, translated into Old Church Slavic language. We can suppose, that together with the process of the language creation the basis of the Old Slavic philological school has been layed. Beside the practical tasks, determined by the translation activity, the participants of this school were occupied with theoretical reflection on the problems, concerning human language as a social phenomenon. Analyzing the history of the early Slavic phililogical school, we can find the confirmation of its existence in the original texts, created in the IX-XIth centuries during the period of Cyrilo-Methodian school activity. It’s the sources that appeared in the very beginning of the history of Slavic writtings: {Life of Constantine the Philosopher (Vita Constantini) (VC), Life of Methodius (Vita Methodii) (VM)}, treatise {On the Script} by Chernorizec Hrabr {(Xp)}, services and homilies to Constantine-Cyril and Methodius, etc. One can see the traces of linguistic and philosophical reflection upon the system of knowledge, inherited from ancient Greek and early medieval science, in these manuscripts. Using these sources, we can reconstruct some linguistic and extralinguistic criteria, permitting us to prototype the Cyrilo-Methodian philological school as well.
