Summary/Abstract: The text of Seklucjan’s dialogue Student. Rozprawa krotka a prostá o niktorych ceremonijách i ustawách kos´cielnych (Student. A Brief Treatise on Some Church Ceremonies and Acts), which became available in full version thanks to Rzepka-Wydra edition from 1994, is not usually found among texts which are in permanent and widespread academic circulation. Such a situation seems to be quite unfortunate because the text is lexically interesting. Seklucjan’s dialogue has a relatively high degree of lexical originality which is manifested in a vast amount of words, word variants and meanings unknown to Polish lexicography. Moreover, it also constitutes an important direct evidence which proves that in the mid 16th century (Seklucjan’s dialogue was published in 1547 or in 1548) unlike by the end of 16th century the knowledge of Latin was still a privilege of very few people as in those days the gentry and the wealthier, more educated townsfolk had a poor or no knowledge of Latin.
