Summary/Abstract: The article is an analysis of rhetorical elements in the treatise {Droga do zupełnej wolności} by Łukasz Górnicki. The starost of Tykocin gave his work a form of an advisory speech − in rhetoric called {genus deliberativum} − extremely popular with the 16th century orators and publicists. Among its two basic components − {suasio} and {dissuasio} − he emphasised the advisory element, which almost completely dominated dissuasion. He based the ways of argumentation on the models typical for classical topics, mainly on well-tried patterns of rational argumentation and teaching persuasion, enriched by the means of emotional rhetoric, such as: the category of the speaker’s {ethos}, referring to {opinio communis}, historical {exempla de praeteritio} − on principle assuming opposition to the present and the use of rational arguments in the front of rhetoric syllogsms, as well as conclusions through an example and introduction of an visual metaphor, refutation, antithesis and amplification.
