Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to analyze the way in which Adam Asnyk's poetry abstracts are conceptualized. The paper focuses on lexemes naming abstracts directly, like smutek, skarga, radość (sadness, complaint, joy) and includes mainly a number of words and phrases associated with indicated notions, together with metaphorical connections, which are vital in presentation of separate notions, e.g. by relating abstracts to the human and floral world, as well as to the world of elements, various objects etc. There is also a remark on the evaluating function of the context and resulting from it shifts in the area of meanings included in dictionary definitions of abstract notions.
