Understatement and ambiguity as a strategic component of the poetic language game in the Polish poetry of the turn of the century

Summary/Abstract: This paper attempts to describe several stylistic mechanisms responsible for creating language games in selected works by Agnieszka Osiecka, Tadeusz Różewicz, Andrzej Sosnowski and Ryszard Krynicki. Phenomena related to words homonymy and ambiguity as well as varied stylistic markedness of phraseological units are taken into account.
