Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the Weltanschaung model and the mentality of the inhabitant of Binche, a small Walloon town in Belgium. The particular characteristic features of the Weltanschaung and mentality of the Binchener point at the aspects of his concept of his native town social space. The analysis is based on the interviews taken from Bincheners during a stationary field work. It reveals that the space of the small town physically outlined by the medieval city walls is considered as an independent closed space inhabited by an independent closed culture community which has modelled its own mentality and value system. The latter modify the concepts of the representatives of the community (using a taboo system as well) on the grounds of tradition, on the concept of community as a tradition, its folklore inclusive. A significant parameter of the common sense has been outlined as well as the existence of a sense of collectivity wherein the dichotomy “domestic-foreign” has a special place. The specificity of Binche as a traditional urban culture has its leading role in the processes and cultural realia studied.
