Summary/Abstract: Piroska (†1134), daughter of King Saint László married Ioannes Komnenos, son of the Byzantine Emperor. The humble and benign wife of the heir to the throne and later Empress soon became popular: she mediated between the Emperor and his subjects, gave alms, supported the needy, and took care for the widows and orphans. Her greatest deed, however, proved to be the founding of the Pantokrator Monastery. The essay provides a description of the 12th century edifice.
