English Borrowings in the Language of the Russian Mass Media in the Recent Decades

Summary/Abstract: The current article deals with the process of borrowing the words from the English language into Russian. The influx of borrowings is conditioned by extralinguistic (economical, political changes, cultural contacts, "language fashion", etc.) and linguistic factors (language economy, etc). The number of English borrowings in the Russian language has increased in the last two decades. 12 semantically related groups of the most often used borrowings from the English language are presented in the article. On the derivational level Russian suffixes -изм, -aциj(a)-, -инг, -изaциj(a)- have become active in combining with English stems. Some English borrowings are still written in Latin or in Latin and Russian.
