Summary/Abstract: Social development in the contemporary conditions associated with the model of sustainable development. The very term is derived from biological disciplines to the concept of sustainability began gradually to permeate and to be used in other sciences as well as in practice. Except in science, the concept was accepted by the international community, and the concept of sustainable development was adopted as a global concept of development in the Conference in Rio de Janeiro, in order to overcome and find a possible way to solve problems related to the development of modern civilization. Normally deals with the three dimensions of sustainable development: economic, social and environmental. The paper points to the partial neglect of the fourth cultural dimension, which is important for achieving development in the true sense, the diversification of cultural and national identity in multicultural societies.
