Summary/Abstract: The research goes into the language classification based on its rhythmical organization. We point to the widespread opinion of dividing languages into basic classes - with syllable-, stress- and mora-timed, but there is still no answer to the question how the "rhythmical regulation " which is the basis of this classification is realized. In this research you can find some interesting ideas about such classifications (is it possible to be made a classification of the source at all; are the acoustic experiments enough or the "rules" have to be found into the different phonological systems, or we have to demand either phonetic or phonologic information). Also, we discuss the most interesting perceptive and experimental researches of different languages, including Bulgarian. Several conclusions are made: the rhythm ofeveiy language is the result of the effect of different phonetic factors, but it appears that both phonetic and phonologic components influence on speech rhythm; for the complete description of speech rhythm phonetic as well as linguistic criteria are needed.
