Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the range of acceptable interference in protection of personality of public figures by the freedom of expression. In the first part, there is theoretical dive in making line between public figures and private figures on the basis of the criteria applied by the judicial practice. The second part focuses on specific decisions of U.S. Supreme court, the European Court of Human Rights and national courts of the Slovak Republic and there is comparative differentiation in approach to the clash of freedom of expression and protection of personality of public figures in the case law of former institutions. A separate chapter is devoted to the judge as public figure.
