Summary/Abstract: This paper focuses on criteria for assessing the admissibility of infringement of freedom of expression in relation to the permissible range of criticism of public figures. Further it concentrates on arguments, why the criticism of judges should be considered as political speech. Through case law of the European Court of Human Rights and the Supreme Court of the United States it is intended to convey the slow convergence of the European doctrine to the U.S. doctrine, and thus put freedom of expression before either personal rights of others, or the authority and impartiality of the judiciary.
