Summary/Abstract: The present paper investigates the extent to which different types of speaking anxiety can be addressed by practicing academic debate. After looking at relevant research in the field of anxiety, I attempt to propose a model through which one can make the transition from debilitating anxiety in the context of teaching debate and public speaking to facilitating anxiety in the context of debate competitions and real life communication contexts.
