Summary/Abstract: The article analyses „The Ants” by Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska, reckoned, apart from „A Woman of Wonder”, one of the best, and at the same time the most popular dramas of this interwar poetess. In the analysis conducted in terms of the history of literature, attention was paid to (as indicated by the title of the drama) social issues present in this literary work. The social issues are present in the two parallel plots – the metaphorical one (in Act I and Act III) and the realistic one (in Act II). In closing conclusions, the attention was drawn to the fact that Pawlikowska, introducing the reader to the world of insects and the reality of humans, extended the scope of the addressed issues. The playwright tackled the question of the totalitarianism – a system constraining the individual, encroaching on the most intimate areas of life and degrading the existing values. In addition, the author expressed her opinion on love and maternity.
