Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to intelligentsia activity in non-political organi-zations — charitable, public health, educational, etc. at the end of еру XIX — the beginning of the XX century on the example of the town of Ivanovo-Voznesensk. It shows the formation of elements of civil society in the Rus-sian province and participation of intelligentsia as well as enterprise circles in this process
