The premises of the Polish transition 1990–1993

Summary/Abstract: Most of the publications concerning Polish political and economical transitions emphasize its assumptions and course of events. This article aims at revealing the premises of the success of Polish transition. The method of research applied in this text is the analysis of wide range of documentation concerning conceptions of Polish economists before year of 1990, Solidarity Movement Archives, Archives of Polish People’s Republic. This analysis led the authors to conclusions that there were many reasons for quick start and success of first stage of the Polish transition. These main factors are: qualifications of Polish economists and their invaluable contacts with western colleagues, the Balcerowicz Plan and the way it was put into practice, the help of international institutions as IMF and WB and the great social support for that painful economical changes.
