Summary/Abstract: The article traces the signs of populism in the political style of local politicians within post-socialist rural Slovakia during the transformation process. It contains a case study describing one Western Slovakian town’s local politics while striving to depict some general features of rural Slovakia today. A core part of the empirical data is based on knowledge gained in field research performed in 2002 and 2003.
